Edward Karpinski

Edward M. Karpinski, 68, of Medical Center Road, Chicora, was a well-known retired Karns City High School teacher and coach. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a courageous battle with leukemia.

Ed was born in Sligo, Clarion County, June 3, 1944. He was the son of the late Bernard and Edith Fagley Karpinski.

He graduated from Union High School in Rimersburg and Clarion University with a bachelor's in secondary education, majoring in mathematics. He taught math at Freeport High School and retired following a distinguished career at Karns City High School, where he taught trigonometry and algebra and coached football and basketball. Ed had a genuine concern for each of his students throughout his career. He wanted to serve as a role model and had a deep and sincere concern that they would succeed in all walks of life.

Ed was a longtime active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. He had served on the building committee for the current church building and on the church council. Ed enjoyed helping people and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at the Petroleum Valley Food Cupboard. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and traveling with his friends, gardening and his John Deere tractor. He attended the Chicora Senior Center and was a member of the PSEA.

He is survived by his wife, Carol L. Shaw Karpinski, who he married in Knox on June 8, 1968. Also surviving are a son, Mark E. Karpinski and his wife, Christine, of Greenville; and a daughter, Holly L. Cramer and her husband, Paul, of Chesterfield, Va. He was “Papa” to five wonderful grandchildren who were the absolute loves of his life, Mason, Cole, Alexandra, Eli and Brady. Also surviving are a brother, Jerry Karpinski and his wife, Joanne, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Kathy Peters and her husband, Allen, of Rimersburg; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Paul.

KARPINSKI — Friends of Edward M. Karpinski, who passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating. There will be no viewing at the church.The interment will be at Hillview Cemetery, Chicora, Kepples Corners.Memorial contributions in Ed's memory may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Bell Tower Fund, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, PA 16025.Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hilefh.com.
