Nathan McCandless

Our beloved Nathan Alan McCandless, 21, of Butler passed away Sunday while working in Sullivan County, Pa., as a summer wildlife technician.

Nathan, born Dec. 27, 1990, was the son of Michael A. and Dolores J. (Kensky) McCandless of Butler.

Nathan graduated from Butler High School in 2009, where he participated in track and field and soccer. He received his wildlife and fisheries science associate degree from Penn State DuBois, making the dean's list. In 2011, he won the College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society's Outstanding Student in Wildlife Technologies Program Award. He was to attend Penn State, main campus, for his bachelor's in wildlife and fisheries science this fall.

Nathan was a dedicated outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He especially enjoyed viewing and photographing wildlife. Some of Nature Nate's favorite highlights were radio collaring elk calves, gosshawk banding and conducting rattlesnake and bat surveys. Nature Nate died in the woods of Pennsylvania where he was fascinated by the trees, moths, butterflies and wildflowers.

He is survived by his mother and father; two brothers, Michael J. and his wife, Angela, of Prospect and Ryan D. and his wife, Amanda, of Butler; two nieces, MacKayla and MacKenna, his goddaughter, both of whom he cherished; his grandfather, Dale W. McCandless of Butler; and his grandparents, Stephen and Lana Kensky. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janet L. McCandless of Butler.

Nathan will be missed by all of his family and friends who loved him dearly.

MCCANDLESS — There will be no visitation or services for Nathan A. McCandless, who passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012.Arrangements are under the direction of Steighner Funeral Home, Chicora.
