Margaret Hughes
Margaret Hughes, 82, of First Avenue, Greenville, passed away at 11:38 p.m. Saturday at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville.
She was born in Butler, Dec. 29, 1929, to the late James C. and Myrtle (Wilson) Davis.
She graduated from Butler High School. She studied voice with Michael Dolan and was a well known soprano vocalist in the Butler area. She was employed as a secretary for Logan Real Estate Broker and then as a switchboard operator and receptionist at T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil, both in Butler.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and also sang in the choir. She was a member of the Gideon's International Women's Auxiliary, where she served as president, vice president and chaplain.
She volunteered at the Greenville Hospital Hospitality Shop, and she was a talented artist who enjoyed oil painting.
Margaret is survived by her husband at home, Edwin Lynn Hughes. They were married July 23, 1955. Also surviving are two sons, James Hughes and his wife, Cheri, of Golden, Colo., and Jeffrey Lynn Hughes of Greenville; and a brother, James Davis Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Plymouth, Ind.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen McKinney.
HUGHES — Visitation for Margaret Hughes, who passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Osborne-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 73-75 Columbia Ave., Greenville.The funeral and committal service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Cox of the First Baptist Church in Greenville officiating.
