FFA member to compete nationally
INDIANAPOLIS — Jake Booher, a member of the Laurel Future Farmers of Amercia chapter, will compete for national recognition in a career development event at October’s 85th National FFA Convention.
The chapter, based in New Castle, will send the sophomore to Indianapolis as he vies for national honors in the Dairy Handlers Activity Event. He is the son of Todd and Trinda Booher. The chapter adviser and Agriculture instructor at Laurel is Randy Harrold.
Dairy Handlers Activity is one of 24 career development event areas, covering job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. Handlers demonstrate their showmanship abilities and are awarded medals during the awards banquet.
Career development events help students develop the abilities to think critically and perform effectively in a competitive job market.
“Through participation in this activity, students receive technical training and acquire skills necessary to display a cooperative, courteous, helpful and positive attitude,” said Melissa Dunkel, CDE education specialist.
