Robert 'Bob' C. Kalka

Robert “Bob” C. Kalka, 83, of Butler passed away at 12:20 a.m. Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Casimer Kalka and Clementine Urbanski Kalka.

Mr. Kalka was a graduate of Washington High School in South Bend. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea during the Korean War.

He was in the nursing field at the VA Medical Center, now VA Butler Healthcare, for 25 years, retiring in 1989.

Mr. Kalka was a member of the American Legion Post 117. He enjoyed photography, fishing, bowling, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and reading.

Mr. Kalka is survived by his loving wife,Vivian (Laterza) Kalka and his family, Gregory Kalka, David Kalka and Robert J. Kalka, all of Butler, and Amy Clause and her husband, Francis, of Boardman, Ohio; four grandchildren, Benjamin Kalka, Frances Clause, Francesca Clause and Elizabeth Kalka; one brother, Jim Kalka and his wife, Retha, of South Bend, Ind.; one sister, Rita Horvath of South Bend, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.

KALKA — Friends of Robert “Bob” C. Kalka, who died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery with full military honors.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, 146 N.
