Jeanne Speakman Reitmeyer
Jeanne Speakman Reitmeyer, 89, of Pittsburgh died peacefully on Sunday at the VNA Hospice in Butler.
Jeanne, a Pittsburgh native who attended Taylor Allderdice High School, was always a woman ahead of her times. As a 24-year-old divorcee with a 6-year-old son, William, she became a real estate broker and opened her own agency. After marrying Sam Reitmeyer in 1954, she joined his home remodeling business as a bookkeeper and office manager while raising their daughter, Amy.
Family was the locus of her life, and Jeanne was proud to have provided both her children with college educations. Jeanne distinguished herself as a bridge player, becoming a Life Master, and recently served as president of the Butler Literary Club. In her spare time she loved reading classic literature, managing her stock portfolio and adopting cats who needed a home.
She is survived by her son, William Dempsey and his wife, Linda, of North Huntingdon, Pa., and her daughter, Amy Giese of Butler; three grandchildren, Caitlin McKoy, Erin Lowenberg and Adelaide Giese; and three great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Georgia Lowenberg and Alexandra McKoy.
REITMEYER — A funeral service for Jeanne Speakman Reitmeyer, who died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, will be in the Homewood Cemetery Chapel, 1599 S. Dallas Ave., Pittsburgh, at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Services are being coordinated by the Joseph F.
