Merle Myers Wright
Merle Myers Wright, 88, of Slippery Rock Township passed away at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Addison, Somerset County, March 30, 1924, to George Clarence Wright and Pearl Sharpneck Wright.
He married Ruth Marie Bowser on April 11, 1953.
He was a retired road supervisor, having worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, mostly in the Butler area.
He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served under Gen. George Patton. He served in the Tank Battalion as a medium tank crewman.
He was a member of the Butler VFW and the American Legion in Grantsville, Md. He also was a member of the Masonic F&A.M. Lodge 769 of Butler and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Wright of Slippery Rock; and two daughters, Yvonne R. Wright of Slippery Rock and Janine M. Sires and her husband, Randy, of Slippery Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Wright.
WRIGHT — Private services for Merle Myers Wright, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, will be Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township, officiating.The interment will be in Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township, where he will receive full military honors.Memorial contributions may be made to the Slippery Rock Rescue Team, P.O.
