Legislation sponsored by state Sen. Mary Jo White, R-21st, to provide the first update to the Pennsylvania Code of Military Justice in nearly 40 years was approved Tuesday by the House of Representatives and will be sent to Gov. Tom Corbett for enactment.

The Senate earlier passed the same measure.

The military code enforces discipline on the Pennsylvania National Guardsmen who are not in active federal service.

It has not been extensively updated since 1975 and many of the provisions date back to the 1949 code.

The legislation also establishes a State Military Justice Fund to pay expenses incurred in the administration of military justice and funded by fees and other money paid to the state under the code.

District Judge Sue Haggerty of Saxonburg was recertified as a member of Pennsylvania’s Unified Judicial System after she completed her 2012 continuing legal education instruction.

The weeklong instruction program in Harrisburg by the Minor Judiciary Education Board and the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts is required for district judges.

The state Senate confirmed the nomination of Armstrong County resident Rocco S. Ali to serve on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Sen. Don White announced.

Ali, a 2007 member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs Hall of Fame, is active in numerous national, state, county and local sportsmen’s groups, White noted.
