Raymond George 'Buck' Monsour

Raymond Monsour

Raymond George “Buck” Monsour, 68, left us peacefully in his sleep at his home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., on Sunday after a hard fought battle against thyroid cancer.

Buck was born Dec. 15, 1943, in Butler, and was the son of the late Nasray and Mary Depe Monsour.

Buck served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, then began his career at Tooele Army Depot as a civil servant specializing in electrical engineering. Buck lived around the world near several army bases supporting troops specializing in water purification systems. Buck was stationed with ground forces during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and military actions in Rwanda and Bosnia.

Buck was a proud patriot who loved racing cars, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, sports, woodworking, music, dancing, his puppies, gardening and having a cup of coffee or a beer with his buddies at the local watering hole. Buck made friends wherever he went with his heart of gold.

Upon retirement in 2002, Buck ran his own appliance repair business in Sierra Vista, Ariz., and enjoyed spending time riding his Harley, tinkering in his shop and visiting his grandchildren.

Buck is survived by his wife, Cheryle Cousins Monsour; his son, Raymond Monsour Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah; his daughter, Alicia (Chris) Smith of Woods Cross, Utah; daughter–in-law, Kami Monsour of Tooele, Utah; brother, Sam (Lana) Monsour of Adrian, Pa.; sister, Mary (Jimmy) Deep of Fort Meyers, Fla.; and brother, Bill (Teresa) Wyant of Meridian. Buck also is survived by special friend and caregiver, Alice Barrett of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and many beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Buck was preceded in death by his older sister Norma Jean; his parents; his second wife, Karan Garcia Monsour; son Daniel; and grandson, Spencer.

Buck's family would like to issue a special thank you to all of our friends and family who have offered support and prayers during this difficult time.

May the sun rise in front of me, the rain fall behind me and the wind follow me. May the angels guard my travels for they know what is ahead of me. Keep me safe through rolling hills and swirling turns. Let the eagle guide me through the mountain tops and the moon light guide me through the night, as I ride into God's heavenly light.

MONSOUR — Raymond George “Buck” Monsour passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. Buck asked that a formal service not be held, but rather a memorial bike ride with friends and family during which his ashes will be spread in the wind under a sunny sky.Information regarding a Butler area gathering will be announced at a later date.
