Tillie Blisak Porter

Tillie Blisak Porter of Burlington, N.J., died peacefully at her home on Tuesday.

Born in Lyndora, Dec. 23, 1920, Tillie was the last surviving sibling of eight brothers and sisters. Her brothers and sisters included Sophia, Annabel, Julia, Mary, Helen, Frank and Stephen.

After graduating with honors as the salutatorian from Butler High School in 1938, Tillie graduated from Allegheny General Nursing School in Pittsburgh in 1942.

During World War II, Tillie was an ensign in the U.S. Navy and met her husband, Clifford, while stationed in Philadelphia. They married in 1946 and had two children, Joseph and Stephen. Clifford, her husband of 39 years, predeceased her in 1985.

Tillie was a registered nurse for 55 years. She began her local nursing career at Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital in Riverside, N.J. (1950-52). In 1953, she began working as an obstetrics and gynecology nurse for Dr. Alan Schaeffer in Delanco, N.J., until he retired in 1981. Tillie then went to work for Dr. Robbins, an orthopedic surgeon in Burlington, N.J.

Tillie's family includes her son, Joseph and his wife, Carol; her son, Stephen and his wife, Rita; granddaughter, Diana and her husband, Jacob, Archer; grandsons, Stephen and Joseph Porter; great-grandson, Owen Clifford Archer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Albert Dow for his attentive care and Father John Shimchick for his visitations.

A devout Christian, Tillie was a member of the Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Medford, N.J.

PORTER — Tillie Blisak Porter of Burlington, N.J., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. The viewing for Tillie will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with Parastas at 7 p.m. Friday at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington, N.J.Saturday visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, 11 Wilkens Station Road, Medford, N.J., and the funeral service will follow at 9:30 a.m.Interment will be at Princeton Memorial Park, 403 Gordon Road, Robbinsville, N.J.E-mail condolences may be sent to the family through www.pagefuneralhome.com.
