William J. “Bill” Karenbauer, 77, of Herman, died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

A lifelong Herman resident, he was born there on July 23, 1935, and was the son of Jacob and Olive Love Karenbauer.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a mill operator from Spang and Company/Magnetics in 1998 following 42 years of employment.

He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, and was a volunteer worker in their annual fish fries for many years, and he was a life member of the Herman Volunteer Fire Department. He had owned K's Korner in Herman for seven years and he enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis Reott Karenbauer. They married May 4, 1957, at the St. Mary's Church; five children and their spouses, Melinda and Mitch Roth of Butler, Leslie and Shawn Karenbauer of Lexington, Ky., Denise Kaiser and her fiancé, Les McGinnis, of Butler, Lisa and Jarrett Ivy of Lexington, Ky., and Amy and Dennis Snyder of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Kristy, Ryan, Trevor, Matt, Tori, Mark, Chris, John, Garrett, Collin, Greta and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Belle and Garrett; a brother, Lonnie (Louise) Karenbauer of Grove City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and Sammy Karenbauer.

KARENBAUER — Friends of William J. “Bill” Karenbauer, who died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Herman. His burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
