Robert Thompson
Robert K. “Bob” Thompson, 93, of Kaylor Road, Karns City, Fairview Township, passed away Thursday evening at the Chicora Medical Center.
Mr. Thompson was born in Frogtown, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County on Feb. 8, 1919. He was the son of Elnathan L. and Maggie King Thompson.
Bob was a 1938 graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and had served on the X-ray staff at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Mr. Thompson was employed by the Witco Chemical Co. in Petrolia and retired in 1984 after more the 45 years of service.
He was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora, where he had been a lector and assistant minister.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada, as well as traveling to Germany and various states throughout the country. Bob enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jameson Thompson, who he married in Gettysburg on June 1, 1938. Also surviving are two sons, Col. Robert K. Thompson Jr., USAF, Ret., and his wife, Patty, of Tucson, Ariz., and Larry J. Thompson and his wife, Linda, of Murraysville; six grandchildren, Mark W. Thompson and his wife, Mary, of Benson, Ariz., Todd A. Thompson and his wife, Kristen, of Ashburn, Va., Brent L. Thompson of Tucson, Ariz., James R. Thompson of Cranberry Township, Justin M. Thompson of Jeannette and Gina M. Thompson and her husband, Stacy Tibbetts of Bellefonte; six great-grandchildren, Dakota, Christian, Tierney, Tiege, Jasmine and Johanna; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and one cousin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Boltz, and two infant brothers.
THOMPSON— Friends of Robert K. “Bob” Thompson, who died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.Additional visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, where a funeral service will follow at noon with the Rev.
