Herbert J. Voltz
Herbert “Buddy West” J. Voltz, 79, of Butler, a well-known country western entertainer, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Passavant, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Butler, on Feb. 19, 1933, Herbert was the son of the late Hubert and Pearl Winters Voltz.
He worked in the architectural and building industry for more than 50 years.
He was a member and a past president of the Western Pennsylvania Country Music Association and was a well-known country music entertainer in the tri-state area for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Penn-Glade Lions Club and was a founding member of the club’s clown group. He was a Christian and a Protestant. Herbert was a very compassionate person and a caring friend to many.
He is survived by four children, Sherrie R. Burns and her husband, Rich, of Saxonburg, Les Voltz and his wife, Marci, of Cabot, Valerie Sura of Saxonburg and Karen Wise and her husband, Mark, of St. Thomas; 11 beloved grandchildren; one beloved great-grandchild; a brother, Hubert C. Voltz and his wife, Janet, of Butler; a half-sister, Alice Leonard of Nevada; a brother-in-law, William K. Thompson of Butler; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Thompson; a half-sister, Jane Voltz; a half-brother, John Boyle; and a stepbrother, James Boyle.
VOLTZ — A memorial service for Mr. Herbert J. Voltz, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cabot United Methodist Church, 707 Winfield Road, Cabot, with the Rev. Matt Judd, church pastor, officiating.
