Robert L. 'Boone' Burns
Robert L. “Boone” Burns, 87, of Chicora, formerly of Aspinwall, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday in the Chicora Medical Center.
Born in Chicora, Sept. 4, 1925, he was the son of the late John A. Burns Sr. and Stella Blatt Burns.
He was in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Denver during World War II from July 1, 1943, to July 8, 1946.
Boone was a registered professional mechanical engineer and retired from the LORD Corp. in Erie on Sept. 30. 1990.
He received his bachelor's degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and received his master's degree in machine design at Case Technology in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Chicora. He was a member of the Chicora VFW, the Chicora American Legion and the Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight.
He married Ruth Shanley on July 4, 1947. She died April 22, 2007.
Surviving are his daughters, Mary Janet and Edward Barczak of Baltimore, Md., Patricia Gibson of Monroe, Ga., Catherine and Sandy Garfinkel of Pittsburgh and Dorothy and Ron Schindlinger of Media, Pa.; son, Robert Joseph Burns of Ashtabula, Ohio; sisters, Catherine Burns of Greensburg, Sister Mary Michael Burns of the Sisters of Charity in Pittsburgh, Sister Theresa of the Sisters of Charity in Greensburg and Patricia and John Bogniak of Corry, Pa.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
BURNS — Robert L. “Boone” Burns died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A celebration of life funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mater Dolorosa Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, pastor.
