Anne B. Melnik

Melnik

Anne B. Melnik, 92, of Butler passed away Friday morning at the Lowrie House, where she had lived for the past four years.

She was born in Butler on May 31, 1920, a daughter of Antoni and Mary Benton Golec.

A graduate of Butler High School, she had loved living and working in Tucson, Ariz., and New York City, where her husband was assigned in the service prior to his leaving for England. She had reminisced often about those experiences.

Anne was an excellent cook and was involved in the PTA when her children were in school. She baked cakes for “Neighborhood Nights,” collected money for flowers when neighbors died, and enjoyed plants and flowers, decorating her home and feeding and watching the birds in her yard, along with years of spoiling her cat, Riley.

Anne was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora, formerly St. Stanislaus Kostka, and she was the first baby to be baptized in that church building. Anne had always a deep faith in God.

She was the widow of Alex Melnik. They were married on Aug. 23, 1941, until his death March 13, 1998. She also was preceded in death by one infant son; one sister, Stella Jablonski; and two brothers, Joseph and Walter Golec.

Surviving are two children and their spouses, Alan and Joyce Melnik of Beaverton, Ore., and Janet and Robert Stewart of Butler; one step-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
