Vernon V. Stetzer
Vernon V. Stetzer, 93, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Butler, died Tuesday.
He was born in Butler on May 29, 1919, a son of the late Joseph R. and Pearl Besant Stetzer.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a City of Butler firefighter after the war until he became a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1984, and moved to Lakeland, Fla., that year.
Vern was an avid sports fan, he was a basketball and football official and baseball umpire for many years, and had been a member of the Butler Area Hall of Fame Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Beswick Stetzer of Port Orange; two children and their spouses, Gordon L. and Margie Stetzer of Butler and Joyce and John Rodgers of Murrieta, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Stetzer of Butler; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bauer Stetzer; and two sons, Dale V. and Ronald R. Stetzer.
STETZER — There will be no visitation for Vernon V. Stetzer, who died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012. Cremation will take place in Florida with inurnment at Butler County Memorial Park.Local arrangements are by the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
