Glenn 'Gabby' Bollinger
Glenn A. “Gabby” Bollinger, 83, of Butler died Thursday morning at the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights.
Born Jan. 14, 1929, in Butler, he was a son of the late Richard A. and Verna (Boring) Bollinger.
He was a retired foreman and training adviser of the quality control department for the Armco Steel plant in Butler, retiring in 1990 after 24 years. He had previously worked for the Davis Furniture Co. in Butler for years as a service specialist.
Gabby had volunteered over 1,500 hours at the Butler VA Medical Center, was a member of the Armco Veterans Club, the B.P.O.E. 170 in Butler, was a life member of the Slovak Club, the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 in Butler, where he was past commander and also honor guard co-captain.
He formerly had been active in youth athletics, as a coach and manager for Butler Baseball. He had been president and on the board of directors for the Butler Basketball Boosters, board of directors for the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame, also the Butler Quarterback Club and had been an honorary water station attendant for the Butler Road Races since their start.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army Pennsylvania National Guard, where his unit had been activated to duty in Germany.
Surviving are his sister, Judith Graham and her husband, John, of Meridian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn J, (McDonald) Bollinger, who he married May 28, 1995, and who died Aug. 26, 1998; five brothers, Richard “Biggie,” Dean, Jack, Kay and Terry “Butch,” and one sister, Faye Warheit.
BOLLINGER — Friends of Glenn A. “Gabby” Bollinger, who died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.Private services will be held for his Family. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
