Seneca will buy new band uniforms

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board on Monday night finalized a vote to spend nearly $100,000 on new band uniforms.

Band director Varden Armstrong petitioned the school board several months ago to buy new uniforms, stating that the current garments are “worn out beyond repair.”

The current uniforms are more than 12 years old and have exceeded their life expectancy by several years.

The school board Monday night awarded a bid of $96,990 to DeMoulin Brothers and Co. of Greenville, Ill. The company will make 250 uniforms for the school district.

While the new uniforms represent a large expenditure, more than a third of the total cost is already accounted for in the form of donations.

Among the donations are $5,000 a year for three years from the band boosters and $3,000 a year for three years from the Seneca Valley Band Foundation.

The nonprofit Seneca Valley Foundation also is pledging $3,000 to the uniforms.

Armstrong personally designed the new uniforms, which he said would have the same Seneca Valley color scheme, but with an “exciting” twist.

It’s not clear when they will arrive on campus.
