Guns found in Winfield Twp. in home of convicted felon

Police at first saw marijuana plant

WINFIELD TWP — A felon is accused of growing marijuana and illegally possessing more than a dozen guns at his home in the township.

District Judge Sue Haggerty this week issued an arrest warrant for 57-year-old Randy Lee Dininger on felony drug and weapons charges.

The charges followed a state police investigation that began in August when vice officers went to Dininger’s house on Cornplanter Road and noticed a marijuana plant growing in brush near the driveway, court documents said.

“I guess you got me,” is what he told the officers when confronted about the plant, according to a police affidavit.

A search of the property turned up at least six similar plants as well as processed marijuana. Additionally, police said they found 13 firearms that included rifles and handguns.

Since he is a felon, Dininger is prohibited from possessing even one firearm.

Dininger admitted the marijuana was his, documents said, and claimed he grew the illicit crop on a “yearly basis” for “personal use.”

The state police crime lab in Westmoreland County analyzed the evidence and found the processed marijuana weighed 31.9 grams, or about 1.1 ounces, police said.

Police on Tuesday charged Dininger with manufacture of a controlled substance and 13 counts of illegally possessing a firearm, all felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
