Mary Jo (Bennett) Yohn
Mary Jo (Bennett) Yohn, 88, of Harmony passed away Monday while under the care of the Evergreen Nursing Center. She was surrounded by her family and caregivers.
She was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Washington, Pa., and was the daughter of the late James and Rose (Johnson) Bennett.
Mary Jo attended Washington & Jefferson College and graduated with highest honors from Geneva College.
She taught Latin at Zelienople High School.
After her daughters entered school, Mary Jo became a full-time substitute teacher in the Seneca Valley School District, where she filled in for different teachers on a regular basis. She truly loved teaching and had a special gift of communicating with children of all ages.
Mary Jo enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Jeopardy,” word search puzzles, card games, and taking trips to Washington, Pa., to visit her family.
Mary Jo was a devoted member of the St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople. Her love and faith in the Lord was evident in all the ways she lived her life.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert E. Yohn of Harmony, who she married on July 9, 1954; her two daughters, Carol A. (Gerald) Baptiste of Butler and Nancy L. (Ted) Meals of Monaca; her grandson, Michael Baptiste of Butler; three sisters, Rose Ann Burgess of Scenery Hill, Pa., Clara Rine of Wheeling, W.Va., and Jean McGary of Washington, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law and her brother-in-law.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jane Phillips, Roberta Beatty and Grace Baker.
YOHN — The Yohn family will welcome friends of Mary Jo (Bennett) Yohn, who passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople, with the Rev. James R. Bertoti, officiating.
