James Eugene Reddick

James Eugene Reddick passed away Wednesday at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jim was born at home in Slippery Rock on April 8, 1936, and was raised in Branchton.

He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1954 and in September married Katherine Sproull.

As a young man, he worked in building construction and as an auto mechanic. Later, he worked with American Hardware Supply through Operation Turnkey to open its ServiStar store, Slippery Rock Hardware. He also opened two stores in Longview, Texas.

In May 1988, he married Genevieve Nottingham and moved to Jacksonville, Fla. He continued in the hardware business as owner and operator of Venetia Hardware. For the past 10 years, he has been the director of facilities for Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, a career change that he loved.

Jim’s work ethic and dedication set a standard wherever he went. Above all, he will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor and love for his family.

Jim was predeceased by his mother, Edith Gills Reddick; his father, Earl Roosevelt Reddick; his brother, Ralph Edward Reddick; his in-laws, Saville Morris Nottingham, Lucius Smith Nottingham Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Edwin Carter Nottingham.

He is survived by his wife, Genny Reddick; his children, Dawn Reddick Lo (Andre’), Mac Reddick and Haley Reddick; his grandchildren, Jessica Hermann (Joe), and Nathan Lo (Weronika); his siblings, Ann Lee (Jack), Bill Reddick and Dick Reddick (Barb); his former spouse, Katherine Reddick; his brothers-in-law, Judge Nottingham (Rhoda) and Robert Nottingham (Amy); his sister-in-law, Laura Nottingham; and many other relatives and friends.

REDDICK — A memorial service for James Eugene Reddick, who passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Northeast Flordia, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

Arrangements are entrusted to the GIDDENS-REED FUNERAL HOME, 904-387-0055.
