The Butler County Housing and Redevelopment Authority has donated about $7,800 to area fire departments so far this year.

A statement released by the authority on Thursday said $300 donations to departments in Evans City, Zelienople, Slippery Rock and Chicora, as well as a $600 donation to the city of Butler’s fire department, are used for training, fire prevention and education.

The authority also made a special, $6,000 donation to the city of Butler fire department toward the purchase of new turnout gear.
