Claire R. Gallagher, 80, of Harmony passed away Thursday while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

He was born May 7, 1932, in Harmony and was the son of the late Carl and Vera Fay (Dindinger) Gallagher.

Claire was a faithful longtime member of the Grace Church of Harmony. For over 65 years, he proudly served as a fireman with the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company and was chairman of the board of the Western Butler County Authority.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Claire enjoyed dancing with his late wife, Liz, but above all, he truly treasured the time spent with his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his three loving children, Sherry L. Szakelyhidi of Fombell, Chad B. Gallagher of Zelienople and Lesa S. Gallagher of Zelienople; his two brothers, John C. Gallagher of Fombell and Ray E. Gallagher of Harmony; his five adoring grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Tyler Gallagher and Jonathan and Alexander Szakelyhidi; and his precious great-grandson, Moses Heine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elizabeth D. “Liz” (Mullenax) Gallagher, who passed away on Nov. 17, 2010, and his sister, Vera Gallagher.

GALLAGHER — The family of Claire R. Gallagher, who passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Church of Harmony, 538 Main St., Harmony, with the Rev. Eric Rodes officiating. Friends please meet at the church.Military honors will be performed at the conclusion of Claire's Ceremony at the church.
