GC folk rocker releases CD, plays concerts

Vincent Anastasi performs his blend of folk-rock music at venues around Western Pennsylvania, most in Grove City and some in Slippery Rock.

GROVE CITY — Folk-rock artist Vincent Anastasi of Grove City blends the styles of Paul Simon, Mumford and Sons, the Avett Brothers and John Mark McMillan, among others, to produce his own Americana, folk-rock.

Anastasi’s recent CD “At the In Between” features eight tracks including singles “Ballad of the Ideal Citizen,” “A Father’s Love,” and “Song of the Broken Man.”

Inspired by U2’s “The Joshua Tree” in 1987, Anastasi bought his first guitar: a $200 Hyostar 12-string.

By 1993, he was writing his own music, and in 1994 he completed his first album.

Since then, he’s set the Hyostar aside in favor of a Taylor six-string, and he recorded two additional albums: “For What Is Never Spoken” with percussionist Tim Hofmann, and “Chest Full of Straw” with fellow musician James Witmer.

He performs around Western Pennsylvania and opened with James Witmer for Eric Peters recently in Grove City.

As an English teacher, literary influences pervade his songs, and as a husband and father, life provides content for his musical compositions.

Upcoming shows are:

Strawberry Days Festival, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Grove City Memorial Park

Grove City Summer Sounds concerts, 7 to 9 p.m. June 13, Broad Street, Grove City

VFW afternoon concert, 3 to 6 p.m. June 15, 220 Blair St., Grove City

Anastasi’s new CD, available at www.tatemusicgroup.com/epk/?id=17237 and major sales outlets, retails for $13.99.
