Arthur Henry “Mike” Forbes Jr., 75, of Butler died Sunday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born July 4, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Arthur Henry Forbes and Jean (Wainey) Forbes.

He was the founder and chairman of Turm Oil Inc. Mike was a University of Pittsburgh graduate geologist with more than 50 years of practical experience in the oil and gas industry. Mike was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Certified Petroleum Geologist 989; The American Institute of Professional Geologists, Certified Professional Geologist 2605; The Society of Petroleum Engineers of A.I.M.E.; The Pittsburgh Geological Society; and was a Pennsylvania Registered Professional Geologist PG-000705-G, registered by the Pennsylvania Department of State.

He formerly served three terms as chairman of the board of the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Association (POGAM), and one term as regional vice president of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA). Mike had drilled oil and gas wells in more than 26 states and Canada. He consulted on properties in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler.

Surviving are his wife, Marcia J. (Lang) Forbes, who he married May 6, 1976; his three sons, Daniel A. Forbes of Ford City, Douglas N. (Laurie) Forbes of Dayton, Pa., Dickson K. “Deke” (Marcy) Forbes of Butler; two grandchildren, Camryn H.J. Forbes of Butler and Allyson L. Forbes of Butler; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Conley of Allison Park, Pa.; and a step grandson, Neil Conley of Allison Park, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Anne Rettger and Dorothy Jean Chambers.

FORBES — Friends of Arthur Henry “Mike” Forbes Jr., who died Sunday, May 19, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be private for his family. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E.
