1:29 a.m. today — Brian L. Perani, 39, of Chicora was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving after a three-vehicle crash in the 900 block of West New Castle Street. Police said Perani's vehicle struck one parked car, pushing that one into a second parked car. One of the cars ended up in the yard of a home.Perani, who had minor injuries, denied he was driving the vehicle. But officers found the keys to it in his pants pocket. He also showed signs of being intoxicated.A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent, or more than three times the state's 0.08 percent legal limit, according to a police report.Perani is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and careless driving.The police report also noted that Perani has two prior DUI convictions.

11:02 a.m. Monday — Aaron Butler, 28, of Butler lost control of his pickup truck when a front tire came loose and struck a large rock in front of the U.S. Army Reserve Center on Route 68.Monday — A weekend burglar made off with a refrigerator, washer and dryer from a home on Valley Street. Police did not say if they have any suspects but a truck was seen at the home between Saturday night and Monday morning when the break-in happened.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.

Monday — Police filed additional charges against 41-year-old Gregory Alan Shaffer of Kittanning, who they previously accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old Armstrong County girl.Investigators said the latest charges were filed in connection with troopers finding Shaffer with the girl on April 7 in a room at the Holiday Inn Express hotel in East Franklin Township.The girl later told police that she and Shaffer on April 5 checked into the hotel, where she said the defendant performed sex acts on her. Shaffer has denied the girl's allegations.Police suspect Shaffer and the girl, unbeknownst to her mother, met through Facebook. A subsequent search of her Facebook account turned up more than 700 messages she and Shaffer exchanged in May.Shaffer was arrested and jailed June 13 on initial charges of solicitation for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, criminal use of a communication facility and obscene and other sexual materials and performances, stemming from the test messages.But on Monday, he was arraigned on new charges in connection with the hotel incident. He is charged in that case with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault.Shaffer remains in the Armstrong County Jail on $100,000 bail.

5:20 p.m. Monday — Two Ohio teenagers were hurt when their pickup truck crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. The driver, Kellen F. Fraser, 18, of Chagrin Falls, suffered what police described as a “major injury.”A medical helicopter flew Fraser to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He was not wearing a seat belt.Fraser’s passenger, a 16-year-old Cleveland boy, who police did not identify, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.Police said Fraser was cited for careless driving and other unspecified traffic violations.
