Louise Hillard, 88, formerly of Hilliards passed away Thursday evening at the Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Venango Township on Nov. 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Miriam Ferguson Cupples.

She was a graduate of the former Eau Claire High School where she was first in her class.

She married the late Donald C. “Joe” Hillard on May 5, 1949. He passed away on Jan. 21, 2001.

She was attending the East Unity Methodist Church. A proud homemaker and a devoted housewife, Louise enjoyed canning and baking bread for her family. She was always active in the church, whether being a preschool teacher at the Eau Claire Presbyterian Church for many years or being a member of the Bible study group. Louise was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing as well as being masterfully skilled in embroidery.

Surviving are one daughter, Mona Lee Fleeger of Saxonburg; two sons, Alan (Pauline) Hillard of Rangely, Colo., and Brian (Gaylene) Hillard of Emlenton; one sister, Margaret Hillard of Grove City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Sellers and Wanda Bigley; and one brother, Bob Cupples.

HILLARD — Friends of Louise Hillard, who died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, will be received at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Schaefer of the East Unity Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in the Eau Claire Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Louise’s honor to either the VNA Inpatient Hospice Care of Butler, PA 16001, or the Parker Personal Care Home, Parker, PA 16049.
