'Beaks!' offers a peak at some unusual birds
PITTSBURGH — The National Aviary has unveiled a new show called “Beaks!”
From courtship to nest building, protection to gripping, the beak is a bird's Swiss Army knife for survival.
The aviary's presentation of “Beaks!” offers a close-up look at a variety of unusual birds including flamingos, parrots and hornbills. “Beaks!” also shares information, in a playful way, about conservation and the positive impact people can have while supporting birds and their habitat.
“Beaks!” show times are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Jan. 1.
The aviary bills itself as America's only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated exclusively to birds. Its collection includes 500 birds representing more than 150 species from around the world.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For admission rates and more information, visit www.aviary.org.
