Robert LaVerne Miller
Robert LaVerne Miller, 80, of Lynnwood, Wash., passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 31, 2013.
Bob was born on Nov. 2, 1932, in Butler the only son of Leland R. Miller of Unionville, Pa.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, and had a very successful career. He earned several citations and awards for bravery for tours in Korea and Vietnam. While stationed in Japan, Bob met and married the love of his life, Sumiko Takata. They were married more than 55 years.
After retirement from the military, Bob eventually relocated to Lynnwood, Wash. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 16 years. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, and became an avid genealogist, contacting and connecting distant relatives and filling in the family tree.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sumiko; his stepsister, Betty “Corky” Leith; his half-sisters, Betty Lou Osche, Viola Miller, Joanne Birckbickler, Judy Walters and Marlene Mentzer; his children, RoseAnn Miller, Wendy Mintiero, Roberto Mintiero, Lee Roy Miller; his daughter-in-law, Linda Sewell; his son-in-law, Rocco Sansotta; and his grandchildren, Luciana and Giuliana Mintiero.
He was playful, big-hearted and will be greatly missed.
