A nature discovery session for children ages 6 to 10 will be offered Saturday in Cranberry Township Community Park. The message will focus on the environmental challenges facing local wildlife. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, hosts “Ferns: Beauty Without the Bloom” at 2 p.m. Oct. 13. Participants can learn to identify local ferns and investigate their life cycles on a 90-minute guided walk with Jennings staff. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, has the mill open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tours, which last about 45 minutes, are available at 1 and 3 p.m. Call 724-368-3612.
