Fred Leroy McKinney

Fred Leroy McKinney, 88, of Chicora passed away Thursday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1925, in Concord Township, the son of the late George S. and Anna Belle (Christie) McKinney.

Fred attended Concord Presbyterian Church.

He was a corporal in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was in the Honor Guard for the first American killed in Korea in the Korean War.

In his early years, he owned the Hilltop Roller Skating Rink in Emlenton. He retired from Hoffman Auto Parts after 32 years. Fred belonged to the NRA and the sheriff association.

Surviving are his beloved wife, who he married July 28, 1962, Shirley A. McKinney of Chicora, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, four brothers, and his first wife, Mary Lou McCandless.

MCKINNEY — Friends of Fred Leroy McKinney, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating.
