PITTSBURGH — A Shaler man who loved hunting and fishing but shunned people left virtually his entire estate to the state game commission.

Officials with the Game Commission say that the $349,198 gift from Joseph Trempus was highly unusual because of its size. Most donations are more like $25, commission spokesman Travis Lau said. Trempus died last November at the age of 93.

Neighbors say Trempus and his late wife didn't have children and rarely socialized. But they loved the outdoors, including goose hunting and trout fishing.
