Fire hits house in Clearfield Township

CLEARFIELD TWP — A Sunday night fire ravaged a one-story home on Old Route 422.

Chief Kevin Hesidenz of the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department said this morning the blaze appears to have started in the basement of the addition to the house at 3014 E. Old Route 422.

No one was injured. Hesidenz said the family of two adults and three children were not home when the fire ignited. The family’s name was unavailable.

A passer-by who spotted the fire called 911 at 5:47 p.m.

Hesidenz said firefighters had no difficulties dousing the flames.

“They pretty much went through the front door,” he said.

Hesidenz, who estimated damages at $60,000 to $70,000, said the house likely is a total loss.

Hesidenz did not know if the family was insured. They are staying with relatives.

Roughly 40 firefighters responded to the call. The Herman, Lick Hill, Chicora, Oneida Valley and Worthington volunteer fire departments assisted East Butler.

Crews cleared the scene at 8:08 p.m.
