ARLINGTON, Texas — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he believes Washington owner Daniel Snyder is “way down the road” in consideration of whether the team should change its nickname.

Goodell got a question about the latest debate over the name during a question-and-answer session with Dallas season ticket-holders before the Cowboys’ game against the Redskins.

The commissioner repeated what he said during the owners’ meetings last week — that he grew up in Washington and considered everything about the name to be something that honored the tradition of Native Americans.

Walker snares 1st PGA Tour winSAN MARTIN, Calif. — Jimmy Walker finally won on the PGA Tour in his eighth year and 188th tournament, and with a little help from Brooks Koepka.Tied for the lead with four holes to play, Walker rolled in a 6-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole to take the lead for good in the Frys.com Open. Three closing pars for a 5-under 66 turned out to be more than enough for the 34-year-old Texan to take home a trophy and plenty of perks.Walker is going to the Masters for the first time, along with a trip to Maui for the Tournament of Championship. He also cracked the top 50 for the first time in his career.Vijay Singh closed with a 68 and wound up with the 27th runner-up finish of his Hall of Fame career.

Thompson, 18, nets 2nd LPGA victoryKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Lexi Thompson won the LPGA Malaysia by four strokes, giving the 18-year-old American her first victory of the season and second on the LPGA Tour.Thompson finished at 19-under 265 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. She also won the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic in Alabama and took the Ladies European Tour’s season-ending event that year in Dubai.Chinese star Shanshan Feng, the Reignwood LPGA Classic winner last week in China, was second after a 67.

SEC has record 8 Top 25 teamsNEW YORK — The Southeastern Conference set a record for most schools in The Associated Press college football poll with eight ranked teams.The Top 25 was shaken a day after seven ranked teams lost, including five to teams that were unranked or lower ranked. Stanford dropped eight spots and Michigan fell from the poll.The top four was unchanged, with No. 1 Alabama receiving 55 of 60 first-place votes. No. 2 is Oregon, followed by Clemson and Ohio State. Florida State moved up to No. 5 to set up a top-five matchup at Clemson next week.Stanford lost 27-20 at Utah and is now No. 13, becoming the first top-10 team this season to lose to an unranked team. Michigan drops out after losing 43-40 at Penn State.
