Susan Roussey

Susan Lee Roussey, 69, of Mars and Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of Wexford, died unexpectedly in her home Friday evening.

She was born in Marietta, Ohio, on Sept. 22, 1943, the daughter of the late William R. and Frederica Teschel.

Susan was the beloved wife and best friend of 45 years to Robert C. “Bob” Roussey; cherished mother of Katie Roussey Caruso (Douglas) of Valencia and Michael Roussey (Christine) of Ashburn, Va.; beloved grandmother of Madison and Brandon Caruso and Matthew and Ryan Roussey.

She left a legacy of unselfishness and an immeasurable love for her family, all of who loved her dearly.

Susan became a lab technician at Marietta Memorial Hospital after graduating from Saint Mary's High School in 1961. She later attended The Ohio State University, where she met her husband Bob. They married in Columbus, Ohio, in 1968. From there, they moved to several locations, including Cincinnati, Ohio, Pleasanton, Calif., Brookfield, Conn., and finally the Pittsburgh area, where they have lived since 1975. They have spent their winters in Bonita Springs since 2004. She was a member of the Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in Allison Park, Pa., since 1976. She regularly attended Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Fla., in the winter.

Susan lived an unassuming, gracious and accomplished life, always putting the needs of her family members and others before her own. She had a love for quilting, reading books, the arts, and her life's passion, gardening. She once was an officer at a neighborhood garden club. For years, she served as a volunteer at Passavant Hospital. She also enjoyed golf, participating with the “9-holers” at Treesdale Golf Club. Her proudest golf accomplishment was winning the Member-Member tournament at Palmira Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs.

Susan had a special talent for creating innovative and eye-catching Gingerbread houses, working lovingly, side-by-side, with her granddaughter Madison. In fact, she and Madison won prizes in various contests for several years, once winning the first place ribbon at the PPG Gingerbread contest.

Susan was also quietly strong and determined, demonstrated by her fight against ovarian cancer, which enabled her to be cancer free for the last six years of her life.

In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived by a brother-in-law, T. Kenneth Roussey Jr. and sister-in-law, Lynn Roussey; three nieces and one nephew; and a sister, Linda Garwood of Winston-Salem, N.C.

ROUSSEY — The friends of Susan Lee Roussey, who died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Services will follow in the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, at noon Wednesday. The church is adjacent to the funeral home. The Rev. Kevin Gourley, associate pastor of the Memorial Park Church, will officiate.
