SRU gets women's soccer shutout
The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team allowed just two shots in a 4-0 home win over Mansfield Saturday afternoon.
Dara Demich scored a pair of goals and Andrea Felix and Cailin Conner also found the net in the victory, which was The Rock’s fifth straight.
Mansfield (4-9-1 overall, 3-9-1 in the PSAC) has never beaten SRU in seven games.
The Rock (10-2-1, 9-2-1), ranked No. 21 in the nation, out-shot the Mountaineers 22-2.
Grove City 3, Washington & Jefferson 2 (2-OT) — Slippery Rock High graduate and senior Sarah Cessar scored two goals in regulation and Becky McManus scored the game-winner in the second overtime to lift the Wolverines (8-6-1 overall, 5-0 in the PAC).
Men’s SoccerEighth-ranked Slippery Rock University fell behind Mercyhurst 2-0 in the first half and couldn’t rally in a 2-1 home loss Saturday night.Stephen Donnelly scored the lone goal for The Rock in the 56th minute.The loss broke a seven-game winning streak for SRU (10-2-1, 5-2).Mercyhurst is now 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC.
VolleyballSlippery Rock University suffered a pair of losses this weekend, 3-2 to Pitt-Johnstown and 3-0 to Shippensburg.Caroline Houston had 23 kills in the 20-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 12-15 loss to Pitt-Johnstown.Houston also had 13 kills in the 20-25, 18-25, 15-25 setback to Shippensburg.SRU is 9-17 overall and 4-9 in PSAC play.
