Charles Edward Standiford

Charles Edward Standiford, 71, of Slippery Rock passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Countryside Personal Care in Mercer following a short illness.

Born on Aug. 1, 1942, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of Glenn Elmer Standiford and Katherine Myrtle Rhome.

He was the husband of Brenda Sue Tremaine, who he married on Oct. 26, 1967.

He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

Mr. Standiford retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 21 years.

He later worked for 21 years at the State Regional Correctional Facility of Mercer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their events and being their chauffeur. He enjoyed yard work and puttering around with his tractor.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda S. Standiford of Slippery Rock; his two sons, Charles “Doug” Douglas Standiford and his wife, Ree, of Grove City and M. Aaron “Tiny” Standiford of Slippery Rock; his sister, Carolyn Sue Neal and her husband, Chuck, of Portland, Ohio, and his three grandchildren, Lainey, Shelby and Caden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant grandson, John Edward Standiford; and his sister, Glenyce.

STANDIFORD — The family of Charles Edward Standiford, who passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday.Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
