Gerard F. “Jerry” Rengers, 91, of Evans City, formerly of Bloomfield, Pittsburgh, passed away on Monday while in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 28, 1922, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Thinnes) Rengers.

Mr. Rengers proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II, in which he flew 100 missions over “The Hump.”

He was a longtime faithful member of the St. Matthias Catholic Church in Evans City and was a former member of the VFW in Bloomfield. He also operated his own Podiatry practice in Bloomfield for more than 30 years.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his seven loving children, Regis F. (Becky) Rengers of Evans City, Lorraine (Dominick) Scarpino of Evans City, Loretta (Gregory) Savisky of Butler, Mark A. (Sharie) Rengers of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Robert G. “Bob” (Kim Price) Rengers of Panama City, Fla., Jackie (Stewart) Laurents of Rayne, La., and Janice (Eric) Hogan of Renfrew; his 20 grandchildren, Steve (Mary Beth) Rengers, Julie (Scott) Rast, Jennifer Horn, Ben (Carrie) Piper, Melissa (Ryan) Bonicky, Zach (Katie) Rengers, Sara Scarpino, Tim (Rebecca) Scarpino, Jacob (Ashley) Savisky, Katresa Savisky, Jesse Savisky, Joseph Rengers, Rachael (Kody) Boone, Christi Rengers, Michael Rengers, Andrea Rengers, Becca Rengers, Patrick Hogan, Leah Hogan and Stephanie Hogan, and his 18 great-grandchildren, Katie Getz-Rengers, Megan Rengers, Hunter Rast, Kylie Rast, Dylan Rast, Kirstin Horn, Stephanie Montini, Allie Piper, Rachel Piper, Chelsea Mars, Alayna Bonicky, Gianna Bonicky, Dominick McCowan, Marciano McCowan, Hannah Dibolt, Jack Dibolt, Lina Scarpino and Scarlett Scarpino.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen (Laingo) Rengers, who passed away on Aug. 22, 2000, and his brother, Father Christopher Rengers, OFM Capuchin.

Rengers — The family of Gerard F. “Jerry” Rengers, who passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Evans City.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, 417 E. Main St., Evans City, with Father Lawrence R. Smith and Father John Getsy, concelebrating.He will be laid to rest with military honors at Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery in Gibsonia.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the St. Matthias Catholic Church.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Jerry's family at www.boylanfuneralhome.com.
