Joseph William 'Joe' Heitzer

Joseph William “Joe” Heitzer, 93, of Butler passed away at 2:15 a.m. Thursday at VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1919, in Butler to the late Joseph Michael Heitzer and Mary Catherine (Mulraney) Heitzer.

Mr. Heitzer was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving as a sergeant during World War II in England, Normandy and the Rhineland.

He worked as a scheduler at Castle Rubber Company. Joe was a member of the VFW Joseph T. Black Post 249, American Legion Post 778 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 64. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing pool and bingo.

Mr. Heitzer is survived by his son, Kenneth L. Heitzer of Butler; his two daughters, Linda Kay Gibala and her husband, Don, of Butler and Ruthann Goff of Butler; his seven grandchildren, Kimberly Jarvis, Karin Fry, Carrie Adamosky, Lisa Merten, Ben Goff, Dan Goff and Danielle Criley; his 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Hubert R. Heitzer of East Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Ruth (Forcht) Heitzer, who he married July 27, 1942, and who passed away Sept. 21, 1987; his son, Thomas Joseph Heitzer; his son-in-law, Christopher J. Goff; and his sister, Loretta Duncan.

HEITZER — The friends of Joseph William “Joe” Heitzer, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman officiating.Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors at Butler County Memorial Park.Memorials are suggested to the donor's favorite charity.Private online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
