Man accused of sex assaults

Police: Girl was abused 3 years

DONEGAL TWP — A hearing is set for next week for a township man accused of sexually assaulting a girl for three years beginning when she was 14 years old.

State police Tuesday arrested Geremy M. Schoentag, 34, on 167 counts of sex crimes ranging from indecent assault to rape.

Schoentag is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

The girl, who is not being identified due to the nature of the case, initially reported the allegations last month to a caseworker for the Butler County Children and Youth Services.

She told authorities that Schoentag started sexually abusing her in June 2010 at a Donegal Township home. The assaults progressed over time and continued until June of this year, according to court documents.

Police confronted Schoentag with the girl’s detailed accounts during a recorded interview Oct. 22 at the barracks in Butler Township

Schoentag admitted sexually assaulting the child, documents said. He told investigators that the girl “agreed to have the sexual contact,” according to a police affidavit.

During his arraignment Tuesday, Schoentag, who is married with two children and two stepchildren, told District Judge Sue Haggerty that he has been self-employed for 10 years.

Schoentag is charged with nine counts of rape, five counts of statutory sexual assault, 35 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and 59 counts of aggravated indecent assault, all felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with 59 misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.

A preliminary hearing is set for 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.

Al Lindsay, who is listed as Schoentag’s attorney in court papers, could not be reached for comment.
