WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old eighth grader was in juvenile custody after police say a gun fell out of his pocket during some horseplay in the hallway at Washington Junior/Senior High School.

Police aren't identifying the student who was arrested Tuesday because the case is being handled in Washington County Juvenile Court. But police say the student faces charges including disorderly conduct, risking a catastrophe, and a firearms charge.

Washington School District Superintendent Roberta DiLorenzo says the student was horsing around with another when the gun fell out of his pocket. That happened about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the school, which is about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.

School officials and police say the gun was recovered and no shots were fired. The school was locked down until students were released about 4 p.m.

MEADVILLE — A judge has ordered a court-appointed board of trustees to turn over all financial records since they began overseeing a 121-year-old amusement park.Crawford County Judge Anthony Vardaro refused, however, to order a forensic audit of Conneaut Lake Park, saying that may not be necessary, depending on what the financial records show.Vardaro issued the order Tuesday in response to a lawsuit by the state attorney general's office, which seeks to remove the trustees.The lawsuit contends The Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park are $900,000 behind on property taxes, and failed to have adequate insurance when fires burned the park's Dreamland Ballroom in 2008 and its Beach Club in August.The trustees were appointed by Vardaro in 2007, after another overseer ran the park after its owner was convicted of tax evasion in 1998.

NORRISTOWN — Some United Methodists are calling on the church's bishop to stop holding religious trials for pastors who perform gay weddings.A group plans to deliver a petition with about 20,000 signatures to Bishop Peggy Johnson at the church's regional office in Norristown.The petition was organized online by the group Faithful America. It asks Johnson to disregard the denomination's “immoral anti-gay rules.”The Methodist church accepts gay and lesbian members, but it rejects the practice of homosexuality as “incompatible with Christian teaching.”Thursday's scheduled event comes two days after a religious jury suspended a Methodist minister for officiating the marriage of his gay son.The Rev. Frank Schaefer, who was unrepentant, expects to be defrocked at the end of his 30-day punishment.

HARRISBURG — Gambling officials have fined three Pennsylvania casinos a total of nearly $300,000 for violating state regulations.The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced penalties Wednesday against casinos in Valley Forge, Philadelphia and Granville.Officials issued a $200,000 fine to the Valley Forge Casino Resort for a promotion that circumvented a law requiring patrons to pay $10 to enter the facility.Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia was fined $20,000 for allowing a banned gambler to wager.Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course must pay $70,000 for failing to properly vet credit applications. A spokesman says the issue has been addressed.
