Richard McConnell - OBIT - 10/21/13

Richard H. McConnell, also known as R. Hunter McConnell, 91, of Sarver, Buffalo Township, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Thursday after a six-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1921, in Natrona Heights to the late William and Ethel (Hunter) McConnell. He lived on the family farm for the majority of his life.

Mr. McConnell waged his battle at home with the support of his family. He was kept going by the heroic efforts of his wife, Liberta, until her passing in July 2011. During the past two and a half years he was cared for by his extraordinary daughter-in-law, Carolyn McConnell.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the Emery Chapel United Methodist Church, Buffalo Township. In addition, he was a member of the Tyrian F. & A.M. Lodge 644, New Kensington, the Pittsburgh Consistory and the Syria Shrine, Harmar.

Richard was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a job developer for the Tri-County Manpower Commission, Butler, before his retirement in 1993.

Mr. McConnell truly enjoyed working the family farm on Howes Run Road in Sarver.

Mr. McConnell is survived by his son, Richard D. (Carolyn) McConnell of Sarver; his two granddaughters, Kristen and Karen McConnell, both of New Jersey; his grandson, R. Grant (Sunnie) McConnell of Sarver; his step-grandson, Matthew (Julie) Morgan of Carlisle, Pa., and his four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jadyn, and Jake Morgan and Annabelle McConnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above and his wife, Liberta T. McConnell, on July 1, 2011.

McConnell — At the request of Richard H. McConnell, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, there will be no public visitation. The memorial and committal services will be held privately later at the family's convenience in the Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.Professional funeral services have been entrusted to the Dennis J. Daugherty Funeral Home, 324 Fourth St., Freeport.Memorial contributions may be made to the Emery Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 136, Sarver, PA 16055-0136.
