5 winners advance in pageant
BUTLER TWP — Saturday night's pageant at the Succop Theater on Butler County Community College's campus had five women selected to compete next year in the Miss Pennsylvania and Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen/America pageants.
The upcoming pageants will determine who competes for Miss America and Miss Outstanding Teen America.
Becca Bly was named Miss Butler County/America.
The 19-year-old is the daughter of Amy and Jeffrey Bly of Chicora. She is a freshman at Westminster College in New Wilmington where she is majoring in music education.
First runner-up was Sarah Elizabeth Herold, 17, the daughter of Beth and John Herold of Butler.Katie Alexander was chosen Miss Moraine State/America.Alexander, 23, is the daughter of JoAnn and Dan Alexander of Burgettstown. She is a sixth-year pharmacy major at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.Carly Cathlyn Koza was named Miss Mercer County/America.Koza, 18, is the daughter of Catherine Ann and Kim Joseph Koza of Beaver. She is a freshman at Duquesne University where she is majoring in biology and vocal performance.Samantha Lambert was first runner-up for both Miss Moraine State/America and Mercer County/America. The 20-year-old is the daughter of Nancy Lambert of Pittsburgh.<BR></Br>
Lexi Abplanalp, 18, the daughter of Ruth and Raymond Abplanalp of Grove City was named second runner-up.Samantha McKain was named Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen/America.McKain, 16, is the daughter of Janet Haller and Rick McKain of Butler. She is an 11th-grader at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School.Claudia Komondor was chosen Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen/America.The 16-year-old is the daughter of Barbara and Michael Komondor of North Huntingdon. She is a 10th-grader at Norwin High SchoolLauren Christine Sovisky was chosen runner-up for both Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen/America and Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen/America.<BR></Br>
Sovisky, 16, is the daughter of Connie and Randall Sovisky of Cambridge Springs.Contestants were judged on an interview, talent, onstage questions and evening wear. Miss Outstanding Teen contestants modeled fitness wear. Miss Pennsylvania contestants modeled swimwear.Winners will receive scholarships and will advance to their respective pageants in Pittsburgh during the second week in June.Pageant directors are Lucy Mudrick and Judy Hughes.<BR></Br><BR></Br><BR></Br>
