Nancy McKenna Murrin
Nancy McKenna Murrin, 95, of Butler passed away Wednesday at her home.
Born on Jan. 25, 1918, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William B. and Clementine Heyl McKenna.
She was the wife of John Murrin IV, who passed away on Oct. 11, 1971.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shadyside. After her graduation she attended and graduated from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh. She later attended The University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her master's in library science.
She worked in the library at the St. Fidelis Seminary during the 1970s. She later worked as an interim librarian for the Butler Area Public Library.
She was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where she served numerous positions on the Women's Council of St. Peter. She also was a volunteer at Butler Memorial Hospital for 59 years, a trustee at Butler County Community College over 20 years, and she was a member of Friends of the Library and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and many more volunteer services.
She was a World War II veteran of the Women of the Navy (Waves) and the U.S. Marine Corp.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann (Frank) Lascuola of Butler; her sister, Clementine Schofield of Annapolis, Md.; her five grandchildren, Nicole (Marc) Panichelle, Frank C. Lascuola, Christopher Lascuola, Katie Lascuola and Kerry Lascuola, all of Butler; and her five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Thomas M. Murrin; and two brothers and her sister.
MURRIN — The friends of Nancy McKenna Murrin, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, or to the Meals on Wheels Program, 218 E.
