George Howard Murray

George Murray

George Howard Murray, 93, formerly of Mars, passed away Sunday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Glenshaw, he was the son of the late Howard J. and the late Catherine (Lunz) Murray.

George was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mars.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 787 in Mars and the Mars VFW Post 7505.

For 27 years, George served as the shift foreman in the packing department at Glenshaw Glass. After 18 years of dedicated service, he retired from the shipping department at the James Austin Co. in Mars.

During his free time, George enjoyed gardening, fishing and above all, cherished his time spent with his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 68 years, Henrietta J. (Huch) Murray; his daughter, Linda J. Cavanaugh of Zelienople; his son, Allan G. Murray and his wife, Gayle, of Ellwood City; his four grandchildren, Jason and Brian Cavanaugh and Cory and Bradley Murray, and his four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, his two sisters, and his son-in-law, Thomas Cavanaugh.

MURRAY — The family of George Howard Murray, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony with military honors will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Nuerge, officiating. He will be laid to rest at Allegheny County Memorial Park in McCandless Township.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Road, Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090 or St. John's Lutheran Church, 420 Beaver St., Mars, PA 16046.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Murray family at www.boylanfuneralhome.com.
