Charles A. Scherder
Charles A. Scherder, 72, of Chicora died at 6:34 p.m. Saturday at his home after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He owned and operated Scherder's Tavern in Gibsonia for five years. He worked for Parker's Appliance Store in Chicora, and retired after 25 years.
He was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora, where he was a lector and eucharistic minister. He taught CCD for 12 years, and was serving on the pastoral council of the Church.
He liked farming, camping and spending time with his dog, Prince.
He was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 24, 1941, to Charles W. Scherder and Janet Kimberly Scherder.
He married Katherine Vandersyde Scherder on June 4, 1960, and she survives.
He also is survived by his daughters, Katherine and her husband, Jeffery Groves, of Chicora, Caroline and her husband, Dennis Land, of Harper, Texas, Rose and her husband, George Pawluk, of Butler, and Mary Lou Fleming of Butler; his 13 grandchildren; his sisters, Mina “Dodie” Potaczek of Butler and Grace and her husband, Ralph Scherder, of Butler; and his brother, William “Jim” and his wife, Marge Cooper, of Michigan.
Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Scherder.

Scherder, who died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, corner of East Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. William J. Ritzert as celebrant.
