SRU’s McCombie earns All-AmericaSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior punter James McCombie has been named second team Daktronics, Inc., All-America.McCombie ranked first in the PSAC and fifth among all NCAA Division II punters with a 43.2-yard average.During his collegiate career, he had six punts travel 60 or more yards, 34 punts go 50 or more yards and had 67 of 208 punts land inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
SRU soccer’s Impey Scholar All-AmericanSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women’s soccer defender Lauren Impey has been named first team Scholar All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.Impey graduated from The Rock last weekend with a master’s degree in adapted physical activity. She carried a grade point average of 3.89.From her center back position, Impey anchored a Rock defense that allowed 12 goals and 73 shots on net in 21 games this season. SRU finished with a 15-4-2 record.
Savisky’s 12 helps unbeaten Point ParkWEST MIFFLIN — Butler graduate Katresa Savisky scored 12 points Thursday night to help undefeated Point Park (12-0) defeat Mount Vernon Nazarene, 65-57, in women’s basketball.The Pioneers are one win shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories. The team is coached by Butler graduate Tony Grenek.
Hasek keys upset for WaynesburgPITTSBURGH — Mars graduate and Waynesburg University senior forward Elaine Hasek scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Yellow Jackets’ 77-75 women’s basketball upset win Thursday night at La Roche.Butler graduate Mackenzie O’Donnell had 18 points and six rebounds while fellow Golden Tornado grad Casie Cygan had 14 points, five boards and four assists for the losing Red Hawks.
