Anna Zielinski

Zielinski

Anna Zielinski, 90, of Butler died Tuesday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born April 15, 1923, in Verchany, Strye, in the Ukraine, a daughter of Thomas and Pearl Stolar Bas.

Anna left her home in 1941 when Hitler invaded the Ukraine, and she was made to be a forced farmworker in Germany for four years until 1945.

She married Stefan Zielinski on June 10, 1945, and he died July 20, 1990.

The family came to the United States through Ellis Island, N.Y., and were sponsored to move to Butler by St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and then Pastor Msgr. William J. Spiegel in November 1951. She has been a member of St. Paul Church since then.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons and their spouses, Stan “Zeke” (Lynda) Zielinski of Butler, Richard R. Zielinski of Butler and Edward S. (Debbie) Zielinski of Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh; her son-in-law, George P. Doerr of Butler; eight grandchildren, Cathy (Christian) Kengor, Kimberly (Rick) Eyth, Darren Zielinski, Traci (Mark) Laffey, Tiffany Tonini, Christopher (Kristy) Zielinski, Ryan (Michelle) Zielinski and Sean Zielinski; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Zielinski Doerr, who passed away Oct. 14, 2008; and an infant daughter while in Germany.

Special thanks are acknowledged to her caregivers, Barbara Brandon, Marlies von Laufer and Jackie Mackalica, for their love, concern and special care given to Anna for several years.
