Richard Presley 'Dick' Scott
Richard Presley “Dick” Scott, 85, of Acadia Lane, Chicora, passed away Saturday evening at the Chicora Medical Center following a brief illness.
Richard was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Fairview Township, the son of Channing and Clara Rice Scott.
He was a graduate of Karns City High School, and received his diploma while serving in the Army at Fort Benning, Ga. He was also a graduate of Triangle Drafting School in Pittsburgh.
Dick served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a sergeant in the 32nd Regiment of the 7th Infantry Division. While serving as a medic in Korea, he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. Dick also earned a Combat Badge and Army Commendation Medal.
He had worked at the Koppers Co. as a lab technician, first in Petrolia, and later in Monroeville. He retired from Koppers in 1983.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Emlenton, where they lived for 20 years before moving to their current home in Chicora.
He was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Chicora Senior Center and the American Legion in Foxburg. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Donna E. Miller Scott, who he married on Sept. 14, 1957, at the Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker; his son, U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Richard K. Scott serving at Fort Knox, Ky.; his granddaughter, Alexis Scott of Greensburg; his sister-in-law, Glenda Eakin of Grove City; four nieces; three nephews, and a number of cousins.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Scott and William Scott.
SCOTT — The friends of Richard Presley “Dick” Scott, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Karns City United Methodist Church, 117 Petrolia St., Karns City, with the Rev. Jim Lewis, church pastor, and the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, retired pastor, officiating.Interment with military honors accorded by the Chicora VFW, Chicora and the Bradys Bend American Legion posts and an active U.S. Army military detachment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Karns City United Methodist Church, P.O.
