Jerry Dean Snyder, 64, of Slippery Rock, Brady Township, Butler County, passed away at 4 p.m. Monday at the Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, Mercer County.

He has been a resident of the Trinity Living Center in Grove City for the past two years.

Dean was born in Butler on Feb. 13, 1949, to Chauncey Harold Snyder and Ethel Garnet Swalin Snyder.

He married Linda Ann Hutchison on June 1, 1974. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2000.

Dean graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1967 and from the Pittsburgh Technical Institute in the early 1970s. Mr. Snyder earlier had been employed at Sterling Lite in Cranberry Township, where he personally handled the lighting sales for many of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He then worked at Ellwood City Motors as a car salesman. He most recently was employed as a bus driver for STA (Student Transportation of America) in Prospect.

He was a member and elder of the West Liberty United Presbyterian Church and was said by many to have “kept the church together” when it did not have a pastor. He on many occasion acted as “Lay Pastor” at the church and was the author of over 100 sermons.He was an avid gardener, enjoyed remodeling, and being a singing actor with SingHosanna! of Butler. He enjoyed his participation with his church on mission trips.Survivors include his daughter, Aimee J. Frazier and her husband, Chris, of Slippery Rock; his sister, Wilda L. Snyder of Butler; his brother, Carl Snyder of Texas; and his five grandchildren, Linda, Austin, Christy, Gabriella and Clayton.He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

SNYDER — The family of Jerry Dean Snyder, who passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.The funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Donna Yanosy, pastor of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Mark Frailey, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake, officiating.Interment will be in West Liberty Cemetery-West Liberty Borough.
